Maca, like ginseng, is a powerful adaptogen, which means it has the ability to balance and stabilize the body’s systems. Adaptogens boost immunity and increase the body’s overall vitality. Rather than addressing a specific symptom, adaptogens are used to improve the overall adaptability of the whole body to diverse and challenging situations and stress.

Because Maca is thought to balance hormonal activity, menopausal women and those who suffer menstrual difficulties may be helped with the use of Maca.  Maca root contains powerful hormonal precursors and sterols that help to balance mood and uplift the energy. It is well known for its ability to maintain physical, emotional and mental happiness.

Studies show that Maca  amplifies sexual libido, enhances male semen quality. Chemical research has demonstrated that Maca Root contains a chemical called p-methoxybenzyl isothiocyanate, which has reputed aphrodisiac properties and is referred to as “nature’s answer to Viagra”.

· The April, 2000 issue of Urology reported that the sexual performance claims made by those who used Maca were consistent with the legendary reports coming from Peru. In women, it is said to increase libido, and may enhance fertility because of the herb’s glucosinolate content.
